Dr. Wilbur Johnson, M.D.

President  &  International Medical Director

In the beginning, I was conceived and born...as an original...into a family of ten. My parents raised us on a small dairy farm in N. Illinois. I left that to obtain my B.S. and M.D. degrees from the U. of Illinois. After post-grad, I went to a Federal Penitentiary. I was assigned there for two years as the sole medical doctor after I joined the U.S. Public Health Service. Following that, our family moved to Galena, IL There I joined two physicians in private practice in this small town, rural, medically underserved setting. Family Practice with office, hospital, OB, ER, surgery, and my family was very gratifying, but eventually very fatiguing. It was time for a change after having raised 3 children, seeing them off to their professional lives, and spending 26 years there in Galena. I wanted that to be in the form of volunteer medical work and teaching in other parts of the world. That is when I started on my trek towards GMT. I am delighted how this has developed and, especially, with wife Pat doing it by my side. Pat and I share this phase of our lives with much laughter and love. Together with our interaction with gifted students, traveling, and medically serving the needy, it brings forth the greatest fulfillment that these trips and our love provide.

Patricia Johnson

Vice-President &  International Pharmacy  Supervisor

Pat was born and raised in Southern Illinois in a town on the Mississippi River. She is an incurable 'river & water rat'. Her Great Grandmother was full-blooded Cherokee Indian. The rest of her is a full-blooded 'mutt mix'...unlike her dog. She raised one adult (now) daughter and she is married to Dr.Wil. Her primary background is in business and personnel management. She had her own businesses, participated in managing medical offices, and more recently was manager and head of personnel / Personal Relations for an industrial business. For GMT she oversees pharmacy supply and inventory. She goes on all the GMT trips along with Dr. Wil. On the trips, she oversees / assists in taking care of the trip participants' needs (including Wil's), facilitates the trip process, troubleshoots and she supervises the clinic pharmacy. She loves 'hanging out' and mixing with students / staff and receives deep meaning & satisfaction doing the clinics / trips. She has a bubbly-smiley personality and is deeply Spiritual. She takes great pride in the GMT mission and the outstanding students who come with GMT.
